Parking Attendants Love Cars Parked Like This.

First of all I would, on behalf of NCP and Torbay Council, like to thank the driver of this car for the generous donation of £60.00 which will be divided unevenly between them, NCP getting the lion's share. If the fine is paid within 4 weeks the donation will only be £30.00, but it will still i am sure be just as gratefully accepted.

Now back to why do Parking Attendants love it when they see cars parked like this? Well if you park your car on yellow lines you know there is always a chance that when you get back there will be a little plastic bag fluttering in the wind stuck to your windscreen with a note inside asking quite politely for £60.00; or else! If there isn't, well you got away with it. If there is, well you think of all the times you did get away with it. You still mutter, "Bastard." as you drive away. But park on the pavement, you can't get a parking ticket on the pavement can you? That's what lots of people think. The Law however doesn't think that. Someone who's job it is to write Acts of Parliament wrote down in the Act relating to parking that the parking restrictions indicated by the yellow lines apply from the centre of the roadway to the building line. Wasn't that just nasty of them. They must have had a hangover at the time.

So when the driver gets back and isn't expecting a ticket it will come a a real nasty shock to find a demand for £60.00 on his/her windscreen. It's the thought of that moment of outrage that brings a warm glow to the issuing officer's heart and a faint smile to his face as he lovingly takes photos of exactly where your car is and taps all the right keys on his ticket machine so the legalised begging letter will pop out, if it has been a long day the smile may even broaden a bit at this point as he sticks it where it belongs.

Now in Thanet the cheapest and easiest places to park are where there are yellow lines, especially bus stops! We have parking attendants but they are only responsible for the paid-for ticket bays and car parks, cars parked on yellow lines are not in their remit. Police are not interested in parking offences and we don't seem to have any traffic wardens in Thanet. Neither do we have vehicle removal trucks or clamps. As a bus driver driving all the different routes around the island, I have never seen a vehicle parked on a yellow line with a parking ticket attached to the windscreen A notice went up in our depot back in June saying the council was going to 'strictly enforce' the no parking at bus stops policy - they might as well have put it up on April 1st! We have a circular service that goes all round Thanet in both directions at a frequency of 7-10 minutes - all they need to do is put a warden on the bus, when we get to bus stop with a parked car, off gets the warden, writes the ticket and then simply catches the next bus - easy money surely and once the public get to know there are wardens on the buses a great deterrent too. Thank you (climbs off soap box)

Would this ticket be valid or do I see a break in the yellow lines?

Come back Bill Stickers.

Valid, there are yellow painted lines where the trench had been dug.

We used to have Police Traffic Wardens who did bugger all. Now we have NCP Parking Attendants who do lots but we still get people parking on yellow lines but they have disabled stickers which they think means they can park where they like. Half the cars in Torbay have disabled stickers so you can guess the rest.

...the parking restrictions indicated by the yellow lines apply from the centre of the roadway to the building line...

Therefore, following this rule to it's extreme...

...if you are parked on your own driveway, in front of your house (rather than alongside it) in a double yellow line area, you can be ticketed on your own driveway...

...if you are parked in a car park in front of shops, in a legal parking bay, but the road outside the car park has double yellow lines, you can be ticketed...

Just seems a bit crazy.

Dave is that not a blue badge i see on the drivers dash

The building line is your front wall or hedge or the edge of your property.

And yes late 12 it is but there was no clock displayed.

Personally, I always used to visit vehicles parked like that first, and make it pretty obvious that I was doing so. At the very least it's inconsiderate as it forces pedestrians out into traffic, at worst it's bloody dangerous.

As for disabled badges? Well, if the vehicle is blocking most or all of the footway it can still be legitimately booked because the terms of the blue badge scheme are being violated. The phrase 'So long as the vehicle is not causing an obstruction' is the kicker in the terms and conditions.

Regards

Bill

My Grandmother has a disabled badge, but you can only park on double yellows for three hours.
we only use it for disabled spaces, so you can't blame me.

David, councils all over the country are moving to these smart cars to make their money. This car operates in the area I work and parking is difficult and as a cost cutting exercise my company are trying to get rid of our car park and staff bus. I hope Maquarie don't take you over, nothing makes sense here anymore.

Well if I was wanting to use the footway, and was forced to walk on the road, I'd be fairly peed off. I vote they deserve it!

Well it's forcing people to walk in the road and is therefore dangerous violating the disabled parking code...book it and throw the book I say...it's only bloody laziness parking this way...
