Not a killer day, just hard.

Well two weeks have gone by since the Sea Front closed. This morning was OK, early afternoon hectic, the evening, up to 8 pm quiet again. I can safely say the last two weeks have been the hardest two weeks of my bus driving career and there is still up to four weeks to go. I was talking to the Torbay Council official in overall charge of the Rock Walk project and he was confident the work was on track to finish on time. I did mention to him in passing how hard the road closure was making bus driving and he was full of sympathy. But it all depends on the weather, so pray for high pressure over Torquay for the next 4 weeks please.

One other problem to add to all the others is there is some work being done in the bus station in Newton for the next 5 Sundays and we are using Highweek Way instead. This Notice was pined up in the sign-on room and stapled to all out running boards. You can see why.

Care to explain that diversion?
Are buses coming in, past the jobcentre (but not turning left, instead ahead to Asda), then using that street as the station?

I always thought that street was pointless up until now.

Only on Sundays. We are going along Hylcon Way round the back of the market and turning left at the lights and right into Highweek Way. We don't go through Sherborne Rd at all. But once the workmen have gone home in the evening buses started using the bus station as did some passengers. Got very confusing. There should have been times when the bus station was closed, either all day and evening or just up to 18:00 hours.

Why only 12 drivers? What about the other 140?

We could've sent some of our clapped out Olympians on a short-term loan. A bit more upper-deck damage would be pretty difficult to detect!

When I were a lad, Midland Red had a special bus with men balanced atop it ,with saws, ready to remove such nuisances

Shame that London General didn't have a notice like that. Then the driver who drove into the side of an arched bridge (rather than under the middle!!) on a diversion may not have had the accident!

12 Drivers were the only Torquay drivers using the Highweek Way diversion with double deckers. What Exeter did to warn and inform their drivers about this diversion would be guess work on my part.

Dave, I think you missed it. The notice says 12 drivers when there are about 120 of you in Torquay. I was implying that the othe 108 didn't need to read the notice. Obviously my poor attempt at humour was wasted. Best wishes.
