Stop Press

Grand opening ceremony put back 4 to 5 hours as the Council were too busy today clearing up the mess from last night's storm to sweep the road which is full of debris. Not their fault. Not sure whether Risk Assessment will take place. I hope it does.

Hi Dave,

Risk Assessment

I would think the pavement of only tiny width alongside the hoarding will become a major hazard as inevitably some pedestrians (children/the elderly?) will, unwisely in my opinion, use that side of the road either deliberately or totally by mistake/out of confusion.

However, as at 0730hrs this morning(when the road was supposed to be closed although several idiots managed to drive through!)the danger appears even greater for anyone walking on the Torbay Hotel side of the road and wanting to cross to the Princess Theatre side. If they leave it to the last moment (and many will!) they are going to step out around the hoarding straight into the now-town bound carriageway, having been totally hidden from view until the very moment they step forward around the hoarding and into the roadway.

Perhaps Stagecoach can make some representations to the Council as, in my opinion, this spot in particular has the very real potential for a fatal accident - albeit pedestrians on the very narrow pavement mentioned above and suddenly stepping into the road are not far behind in the danger stakes.

Hope thesae remarks are of some constructive assistance.

regards,

Dave Boulter MBE

Very valid point indeed. A drivers worst nightmare is to hit a pedestrian. Not so bad for the pedestrian as they get an all-expenses paid holiday to a nice hotel by Lawes Bridge...

Failing that, have the danger boards as they have at the entrances and exits to bus stations:

WARNING! SEVERE DANGER OF DEATH! DO NOT ENTER THIS AREA!

Banning people from walking on that side of the road would be a better idea. Can't be that confusing for them, surely?

I am sure the noble Torbay Council Highways team will have done their jobs.

That, LH, is what everyone's afraid of...
