There are fears the are about to drop branches on passing motorists.
New trees will be planted once these have been cut down.

Hello David.
Thanks for posting the picture. I clearly remember a friend and her mother being involved in a terrible collision with the first tree on the left back in 1968. Her mother was sadly killed and if you look at the bark on the lower part of the tree, it has never grown back properly, a constant reminder of that tragic Sunday lunchtime.
Hello Dave from Leicester. I was unaware of the accident you mention. I am sorry if my photo brought back sad memories. I do recall a fatal single car accident a few years ago, three I think on the same stretch of road and there have been several non fatal accidents there over the last ten years so it isn't the safe road it looks.
Please don't feel that there's any need for any apology. I was just mentioning the 1968 accident as others may recall why the bark is still missing to this day.
Again, in 1968, the police used to set up radar traps right at the bottom of the valley to catch speeding motorists. One night, I was a passenger in a Mini driven by a mate. On reaching the Paignton bound bus stop for Tanners Lane, a cop jumped out in an attempt to stop him. He'd clearly gone through the radar trap. My mate swerved round him and sped off making his way home through the back streets of Paignton. To date, no summons has been served. Meanwhile, I had a long walk home....
Thanks for maintaining this blog. it really does have great content!
Thanks for taking the time to go and have a look at the tree and to take the photo, Dave.
I really must buy you a beer or two next time I'm down in Torbay.
I was going to go the the 50th Anniversary of the 'Atlantean' at Haldon Racecourse, but sadly, the event has been called off due to low entry numbers. Another casualty of the credit crunch, I suppose.
Best wishes and please keep up the good work. -Dave (the bus nut) from Leicestershire.

Hi Dave, I had a look at the tree to day, it does in deed have a big chunk of bark missing, see the photo.
