Comments

I have tried to avoid using word verification in the comments section, it makes it harder to leave comments and I love most comments but over the last week I have been hit with over 60 spam comments.

I will remove the word verification it in a few days.

Sorry for any delays in your journey.

David

I put word verification on from the start, no idea if it's preventing spam though...

I have verification on and still get a couple of spams per day! I delete them manually and I don't think anyone sees them because they are always comments to old postings. I think the spammers take the time to manually make spam comments to old postings in the hope that they wont be noticed and removed. The benefit to the spammer is that google will index the page and comment: with google a site gains credibility as it gains more links to it! So it's 'hidden' links to their sites which the spammers seek. The only way to stop spam completely is to require registration prior to the first comment being posted. I'd like to do that but I fear it would really put people off ...... or would it?

Malcolm, The problem is as you say, hits. I got almost 60 comments, all aimed at a post in Oct 2004. Bit of a bugger deleting them all. I shall leave word verification on for a few days and see what happens. I am not going down the registration route though. No spam since WV went on.
