My thoughts go out to my bus driving colleagues in Manchester to night for two reasons. The first is a fire that damaged a building in Dale Street and must have coursed large scale diversions in and around this busy main road just north of Piccadilly Gardens in the town centre. The second is the news of a fatal crash involving a Stagecoach bus and a Ford Focus. The driver of the Ford Focus was killed and the bus driver seriously injured.
It must have been a hard day today driving a bus in Manchester.

I live in Stretford and it has been a crazy 48 hours on the roads! It seems the early summer does not only mess with the heads of animals but with humans too. Not only the fatal you mention but one other as well as 1 cyclist seriously hurt and 1 seriously hurt cut from their car all within 10 minutes walk from me.
The M.E.N has a picture showing the damage to the bus here http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/g/1005922_driver_dies_in_horror_crash.html
to have caused such damage the speed involved must be unbelievable.
Stagecoach tried running a service to Plymouth recently but it stopped, was it a summer time service only or did First complain of the competition?
Because the X80 is the only bus route to Torbay it would take time for people to notice an alternative. However, if the fare was cheaper...
Simon, I did have a look at the Evening News pictures and as you say speed must have been high. I know that streach of road through Gorse Hill and it can induce some people to put their foots down.
prodigal green, we did try running a service to Plymouth but not by the dirct route. It went through all the county lanes and small villages and didn't last long,it took for ever to get to Plymouth. The X45 will be dirct and you will be able to use the same ticket on buses in Torbay when you get here which you can't do with the X80.
I thought it was always a hard day driving a bus in Manchester.

I drove a taxi in Manchester but never a bus but yes it must be harder work than here in Torquay.
Apparently the driver of the focus was late for a game of golf. Police put his speed at between 70 to 85 mph, the limit where the crash happened is 40 mph, and it was at about 9-30 am, so the rush hour traffic still had not cleared properly.
Thanks for that imfo anon, I sometime wonder why people drive fast when it must be clear even to them that if anything goes wrong the effects can be devastating.
Ive got a picture of the bus cab taken just after it was hauled back to Princess rd garage, also 2 pics of some kids handiwork on a twelve month old Trident. Can you let me know how I can forward them to you please.
Cheers
Mike.
