I was walking past the end of The Kings Drive where it comes onto the sea front and I noticed a new tree. It has been planted to honour somebody from the Town Hall by his colleagues. I am sure it will be a fine tree in a few years time, taking in all that carbon dioxide and helping to save the planet. At the moment though it doesn't look too impressive, it's a bit like all those benches along the front dedicated to Mum and Dad who loved Torquay so much they came back every year for 50 years. And you can sit on the benches.

We seem to have had some 'wierd' comments lately -like the first one (preceding this)as reply to the tree planting. they do not have any bearing on the subject they are supposedly comment on and in fact in some cases appear to be a blurb for some commercial purpose or possibly 'scam'I also note that there are some entries whih have been deleted by the webmaster' have these contained some of the same type of material?
To talk about trees, I think a tree is a very good memorial -as long as vandals do not get at it.Inmy local park the Borough Council planted a number of trees about 5 years ago and whilst about 50% of them were vandalised the rest are maturing nicely. Whilst these were not a memorial I would like to think that in 5 years time old workmates wiill be able to take their lunchtme sandwiches, sit in the shade and remember their colleague.
Weird comment deleted. I have commentmoderation on for comments on posts over 14 days old and there are dozens of "weird" comments waiting to be deleted. Some aren't even in English and those that are don't make sense. I have no idea where they are coming from or why.
Any tree planting in Torbay (or anywhere else) is to be commended. Not just for their value to the health of the planet but also because they enhance our landscape.
On the other hand, those who rip branches from trees or destroy saplings just for the fun of it are to be scorned!
Back in the early 90s, when we lived up at Watcombe Park, I took my family up to nearby Brunel Woods to take part in a community re-planting day. This was after we had watched the woods being decimated by the hurricane of 1989. It was very satisfying and for several years afterwards we visited the spot where we'd planted some trees to watch their slow progress towards maturity.
On another note, I'm also writing a blog and wondered if you would add my URL to your list of bus blogs. I'm a part time conductor on vintage buses and am training to be a driver. The blog is popular among those who like to look back to former days! In return I will happily add your blog to my list. John.
Trees are lovely. As has been said, they soak up CO2. Unlike benches for memorials, which are made by killing trees!
Just hope that the vandals don't get this tree.

Running this Russian stuff through Google Translate it looks like a plug for a Russian music group. Nothing about trees I can assure you.
As for the tree, well better than nothing I suppose, Let's see what it looks like in a few years time.
