Things You See in the Night

Woke up about 3:30 this morning, a call of nature. When I got back to the bedroom I looked out the window. I usually do, to see what the weather is doing, clouds in the sky? No. Stars shining? Yes. Moon out? No. Fox walking down the middle of the road? Yes.

Now that isn't something you see every day, or every night for that matter.

Used to happen my way a lot - there were a couple of earths in a scrapyard across the road and we'd often see the cubs playing on the road during the night - being guarded over by a very watchful vixen of course...

Now the scrapyard's been replaced by a housing development, the neighbourhood's a little more salubrious, but the foxes have gone and it's somehow not the same...

At night if I get insomniac and go for a walk, I do occasionally see a dog fox beside the dual carriageway near where I live - I think he raids the bins behind our local supermarket.

When I lived in London there were foxes around. When I was on lates I would save half a sandwich and put it down on the pavement at the terminus on the last trip for the fox.
